The Art of denim care.

At SEPT STUDIO’S, proper care is considered part of the design. Japanese denim is created to evolve, and how it is worn and maintained defines its character.

In the early stages, restraint is essential. Avoid washing for as long as possible — ideally several months of wear. This allows the indigo to settle and develop natural contrasts unique to the wearer.

When washing becomes necessary, do so with intention. Turn the garment inside out and wash it separately in cold water. Use a minimal amount of mild detergent, free from harsh chemicals. A gentle hand wash is preferred; if using a machine, select the most delicate cycle.

Never use a dryer. Heat compromises both the fibres and the indigo. Instead, reshape the garment while damp and allow it to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight.

Japanese denim should not be cleaned frequently, nor treated aggressively. Wear introduces life; time reveals depth. Subtle fading, softening and movement are not imperfections — they are the signature of a well-lived piece.

Properly cared for, Japanese denim does not wear out.
It wears in.
